독일 밴드 무터(“어머니”란 뜻의 독일어)에 대한 다큐멘터리. 무터의 음악은 시끄럽고 듣기 괴롭고 헤비하다가, 갑자기 부드럽고 가벼워진다. 이 스타일의 대조는 관객들을 쫓아내기로 유명했을 뿐만 아니라 프로듀서까지 도망가게 만들었다. 지난 18년 동안 독일 대중 음악의 지형에 큰 영향을 미친 무터. 하지만 명성은 늘 그들을 비껴갔다. 무터의 음악은 편리하게 하나의 카테고리로 정의내릴 수 없다. 그들에게 법칙은 늘 변하는 것이며, 그들의 활동이 어떠해야 한다는 상식도 존재하지 않았다.
독일과 스위스에 걸친 무터의 음악 여행을 쫓아다니며 찍은 이 다큐멘터리는 공연 실황 장면과 멤버들의 독특한 개인사를 담은 수퍼 8밀리 푸티지를 직조하여 우리를 1980년대의 베를린의 풍경으로 안내한다. 1마르크로 누군가의 아파트에서 콘서트를 구경하고 뒷마당에서는 권투 시합이 벌어졌던 그 시절로.
드러머 플로리안 쾨르너 폰 구스토르프는 <슈람>의 주인공을 맡기도 했다. <슈람>의 감독이자 DJ로도 활동하고 있는 요르크 뷰트게라이트 감독도 코멘터로 등장한다.

The band “Mutter” is something of a phenomenon. Their music is, by turns, loud and brutish and tender and transient – a style that has caused both their audiences as well as a string of producers to take to their heels. They’ve been influencing the German music scene for the past 18 years now – but without ever having become famous themselves. This film follows the band’s tour through Germany and Switzerland. Interweaving private Super 8mm footage with the band’s history, it takes us back to Berlin in the 1980s.

안토니아 간츠 Antonia GANZ

1974년 독일 쇼프하임 출생. 1993년 고교 졸업후, 1995년 파리의 라디오 TV 방송국에서 프로덕션 어시스턴트를 했으며 1997-2005년, 뮌헨의 HFF(뮌헨 주립 영화 TV 아카데미)에서 다큐멘터리 전공. 1998년부터 현재까지 4편의 장단편 다큐멘터리 작품을 만들었다.

Born in 1974, in Schopfheim, Germany. After high school graduation in 1993, worked as production assistant at RFO (Radio Television Frnacaise d’Otre-Mer) in Paris in 1995. From 1997 to 2005, studies at the HFF Munich (state academy for film & television Munich) in the documentary film department.
